SUMMARY:Sonic Body Series #10
DESCRIPTION:Christine Bonansea returns to convene dancers and musicians in an improvisation\, the tenth since 2013. I remember watching this unfold at the (old) Berkeley Art Museum and feeling its dead serious recklessness\, its sharp use of space and silence\, and the intensity of performance conversation between the movement and sound artists. Dancers make me a better musician. \nI’ll be performing with Christine\, Rosemary Hannon and Marina Fukushima (movement) and Tom Djll\, Jacob Felix Heule and Tim Perkis (music). Expect exquisite sets from Isak Immanuel and the duet of Kevin Corcoran and Jorge Bachman.

SUMMARY:The Crossing Pt. 1 (work in progress)
DESCRIPTION:A work in progress showing of Edward Schocker’s new work premiering in April at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts’ New Frequencies Fest. I’m in the ensemble on percussion\, and we’ve been developing a vocabulary drawn from our common and uncommon Pacific rim backgrounds and informed by the scattered melodies of Korean Sanjo\, Sinawi and shamanism. \nWith \n\nDylan Bolles\, Flutes\nDohee Lee\, voice\nKanoko Nishi\, koto\nAdria Otte\, violin\nEdward Schocker\, Reeds

SUMMARY:RITUAL 1 Reprise
DESCRIPTION:Second night of sharing stages with visiting violinist Jeff Young\, this time with a reconvening with members of the RITUAL 1: thicket ensemble\, which met in January to accompany Mari Osanai\, Dana Iova-Koga and Shinichi Iova-Koga’s performance. Combining voice\, violin\, processed water and objects with Tim Kim and Katherine McDonald. \nThis performance furthers an investigation catalyzed by inkBoat’s 95 RITUALS (for Anna Halprin). I’m part of the creative collective developing and performing a monumental set of works informed by Anna: \n“Ritual is another word that needs a new definition… Ritual\, as I use the term\, refers to an artistic process by which people gather and unify themselves in order to confront the challenges of their existence.” \nIt’s a bountiful bill. Expect Curt Brown (from Akron now Oakland) with Fletcher Pratt and new graphic scores from Phillip Greenlief performed in his trio with Elzbieta Polak and Lisa Mezzacappa.
